Aqua-Medic Skimmers for Smaller Scale Farming and Domestic Use

Turboflotor 10 000

The Turboflotor 10 000 is the economic version of the Turboflotor 20000. It is made from injected ABS rings and is designed for a flow rate of 10.000 l/h (2500gph). OLGEAR is a distributor of Aqua-Medic products and recommends the Turboflotor 10 000 for larger aquariums up to 10.000 l (2500 gal) volume and professional aquaculture systems in South Africa and Africa.

Turboflotor 5000

The 5000 series protein skimmers have been developed by Aqua-Medic for larger aquaria. Just like the smaller models, they feature venturi pumps (Ocean Runner 3500) which include a patented needle wheel for optimal mixing of the air and water. The reaction cylinder has a diameter of 200 mm (c. 8 inches). Above the cylinder, the patented conical foam cup improves the production of foam. The inlets and outlets of the skimmer are designed to ensure an extensive contact time for the air bubbles within the counter-current. To supply the skimmer with water, a separate pump with a capacity of 2000 - 4000 litres per hour (500 - 1000 gph), e.g. Ocean Runner 3500, is needed.

Turboflotor 1000

The Turboflotor 1000 is a compact skimmer with an integrated trickle filter, designed for installation in a sump. The skimmer includes venturi pump with needle wheel to mix air with water and pushes both into the reaction pipe (110 mm, 4.4 inches in diameter). The skimmer´s design ensures an intensive air-water mix giving a long contact time for the air bubbles. The bubbles create foam that is collected in the conical foam cup. Treated water from the reaction cylinder is fed to the attached Bactoball filled trickle filter, which is used for biological filtration. OLGEAR recommends this system for bench scale studies for companies in South Africa and Africa who would like to experiment before buying a full system.

Flotor 5000

The Flotor 5000 has the same dimensions as the Turboflotor 5000, however, it is operated using air stones. The reaction pipe has a diameter of 20 cm (8") and both outlet pipes are located outside the skimmer. If used with a powerful air pump (e.g. WISA 1000), the 2 lime wood air stones produce a fine foam in the water, which operates in a strong counter current. The air stones can be changed quickly and easily. OLGEAR supplies Aqua-Medic products throughout South Africa and Africa.

Turboflotor Multi SL

The Turboflotor Multi SL is Aqua-Medics most versatile protein skimmer. It can be fixed to the side of the aquarium (´hang-on´ mode), or placed inside or outside the sump of the filter. Its compact size makes it small enough to be stored under the cabinet.
In the ´hang-on´mode, only the pump is placed inside the aquarium. The pump Ocean Runner PH 2500, 37 W, features a venturi with the patented Aqua Medic needle wheel. The skimmer itself has the conical collection cup inner tube (also patented), and a lid, and two outflow boxes for directing the outflow back into the aquarium.
As an option, a large 1.2 litre (0.3 gallon) Filter Box can be placed at the outlets, for use as a first stage biological filter. OLGEAR recommends this setup also for farmers in South Africa and Africa wanting experiment before they buy.
